There are five themes present in Stand By Me. The first, and most prevalent, is independence and self-discovery. Dominique begins her story as an independent young adult. She knows what her family wants for her, and realizes that it is not who she is, so she pursues a different path.
How does Stand By Me end? The film ends shortly after the boys find the body. After their run-in with Ace, where Gordie turns a gun on the cruel thug, they head home. As they reach their home town of Castle Rock (the location of many a Stephen King story), they say their goodbyes to one another.
In a film defined largely by the rowdy banter and camaraderie of a group of twelve-year-old boys, we find Gordie Lachance, our narrator and protagonist, sitting alone while the other guys sleep, reading a comic as the sun creeps over the horizon. Suddenly, a deer enters the frame and pauses a few feet from Gordie.
A man bursts into a room with an old man (Chancellor Wang Yang) and two young girls (his granddaughters Ruo Qing and Ruo Ling) - the man warns them to run as Eunuch Qiu Zilang's men approach. Yang and his granddaughters are helped down an escape tunnel by a soldier.
